Petland Lexington is a proud supporter of Canine Care Certified – a new, nationwide program that ensures the health and overall well-being of dogs in the care of breeders in the United States.
This voluntary program is the only one of its kind in the country, supporting the physical heath and the behavioral well-being of dogs and puppies raised by breeders.
We believe in the importance of pet choice and ensuring dogs from breeders are well cared for. When adding a new member to your family, it is important that you are able to choose the dog that best fits your family. You also should be able to trust that the puppy and its parents were well cared for.
The program’s Standards of Care, developed in 2013 by Dr. Candace Croney, Ph.D from the Purdue University Center for Animal Welfare Science, are rooted in extensive scientific research. They were written and tested in collaboration with breeders, veterinary and animal science experts, state regulators and animal welfare organizations. The standards address critical areas of well-being such as nutrition, veterinary care, housing, handling and exercise.
It’s voluntary. It’s stringent. And it matters.
Our store is proud to partner with certified breeders and looks forward to offering additional dogs raised under the stringent standards as the program grows.
We encourage customers to ask our knowledgeable staff about Canine Care Certified. Also, be sure to ask for the dog’s records and look for the Canine Care Certified seal.
It is our sincere hope that all breeders explore Canine Care Certified and consider participation. It is simply the right thing to do to ensure puppies and their parents receive the best possible care and attention.
